Ozempic Natural: Studies Analyze the Effects of Saffron

Natural Ozempic has gained popularity in TikTok videos. However, is it safe and reliable?

Ozempic is a medication approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and other conditions. However, it can only be prescribed by a specialist.

According to various studies, one of its compounds is semaglutide, which is believed to have effective anti-obesity properties, leading many to believe it’s “good for weight loss.”

However, in January 2025, a study began that could determine whether natural saffron-based supplements can function as a kind of “natural ozempic” and find out if this alternative can combat food anxiety, according to Infobae .

These analyses are being conducted by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the Catholic University of Valencia and could determine the effectiveness of saffron for these purposes.

What is saffron and what is it used for?

Saffron contains nutrients such as protein, iron, potassium, phosphorus, and the carotenoid dimethylcrocetin. It is associated with several benefits, including the prevention of Alzheimer’s, its antidepressant properties, and its ability to improve digestion, among others.

However, the possibility of saffron functioning as a type of natural ozempic is still under study. However, several international media outlets point out that berberine has some properties similar to those of this drug, although they also indicate that certain considerations should be taken into account before using it.

In this regard, various sources claim that it’s “exaggerated” to consider berberine a natural ozempic. Even so, this alternative has some useful benefits for treating cholesterol, regulating blood sugar, and other issues, as explained by internist Luis Rejopachi.

What are the benefits of berberine?

According to Rejopachi, these are some of the benefits of berberine from a homeopathic perspective:

  1. Metabolic syndrome. This includes high cholesterol and triglycerides, hypertension, insulin resistance, and hyperglycemia.
  2. It improves insulin resistance, which is why it is associated with ozempic.
  3. It is beneficial for those suffering from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
  4. Regulates blood pressure.
  5. This is a compound found in turmeric and other plants.

  • Do not consume it if you are hypertensive and already taking medication.
  • If you are taking any medication for diabetes, avoid taking it.
  • In general, berberine has many interactions with medications such as barbiturates and other medicines, as it can cause significant side effects.
  • In general, always consult your doctor before using it, especially if you are undergoing any type of treatment.
