The Hass avocado ( Persea americana ) is one of the most exported varieties of this fruit. It differs from other species because it is oval and has more flesh than pit.

Additionally, its flesh appears more yellow than other varieties. Generally speaking, any avocado species consists of its peel, flesh, and inner layer. According to nutritionist Fernanda Alvizures, the Hass avocado has the same nutritional properties as other types, although the nutrient content varies.

In the case of the Hass avocado, the expert points out that it has a higher fat content than other varieties, but it is a monounsaturated fat, which is why it is considered healthy.

What are the health benefits of Hass avocado?

  1. Protects the heart. Alvizures indicates that its consumption is recommended because it contains nutrients such as oleic acid, which reduces LDL cholesterol (known as “bad”), thus protecting us against cardiovascular disease.
  2. Controls blood pressure.  The expert mentions that avocados contain a high potassium content, even higher than plantains, which helps regulate blood pressure and reduces the risk of hypertension.
  3. It has a low glycemic index and soluble fiber, helping to control blood sugar.
