There are superfoods that you probably have in your kitchen or see very often in the supermarket and perhaps you have not yet taken full advantage of them. Flaxseed, which has the characteristic of controlling blood glucose levels due to its high fiber content, is one of them. Learn more about this seed and its benefits.
Flaxseed is a small ingredient that surprises everyone thanks to its powerful properties. Flaxseeds contain fiber, vitamins and minerals, vegetable protein, and antioxidants that help prevent cell damage.
In addition, it can be an excellent ally for repairing intestinal flora and fighting indigestion. To achieve both benefits, all you have to do is put two teaspoons of flaxseed in a glass of water and let it soak for 10 minutes. Stir and drink the mixture. Repeat the procedure every morning and you will see results from the third day onwards.
According to Katherine Zeratsky, a Mayo Clinic dietitian with a degree in endocrinology and nutrition, flaxseed may also help reduce total blood cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL, or “bad” cholesterol) levels, which may help reduce the risk of heart disease.
Nutritionist Alejandra Díaz explains that flaxseed is an excellent option for people on a vegetarian diet because it provides plant-based protein. She also claims that it has a high content of essential fatty acids for the body such as Omega 3, Omega 6, and Omega 9, and that it contains iron, potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus.

To get the nutrients from this product, Diaz suggests adding ground seeds to fruit smoothies, yogurt or cereal, pancakes, or other baked goods. For savory dishes, you can add them to soups or salads.

Using flaxseed also brings about good cosmetic results. You can drink it to get the benefits mentioned above and it will also prevent premature aging of the skin, you will notice that it will help you to lighten spots and eliminate toxins, preventing acne. If you prefer to apply it to your skin instead of ingesting it, you will also get the effects mentioned above. You can also use flaxseed as a solution to say goodbye to frizzy hair.
To prepare either a hair mask or a skin mask, the procedure is the same:
- Fill a small pot with water
- Add two tablespoons of flax seeds
- Heat over medium heat
- When it reaches boiling point, wait two minutes remove the mixture from the heat, and use a strainer to separate the seeds.
- Finally, once the mixture reaches room temperature, it can be used for its intended purpose. Its texture will be sticky, but that is completely normal.
- If you are going to apply linseed to your hair, you should do so when it is freshly washed and still damp. Distribute the mixture throughout your hair and allow it to dry naturally.
- For easy masks, you should apply the mixture all over your face. If you have any problems with the texture of the flaxseed, you can use a cotton pad to apply it to your face. Let the mask sit on your skin for 20 minutes and remove it with plenty of cold water.
