Acne Masks (Tips For Getting Rid Of Acne)

Acne is a common problem affecting a good percentage of the population and can be caused by a variety of factors. According to the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD), acne affects approximately 85% of adolescents, but can occur in most age groups, and can persist into adulthood.

He also says that acne classification systems can be useful in patient care. Such systems can contribute to a more specific classification of the disease, help determine appropriate treatment options, and monitor improvement throughout treatment.

Treatment may vary depending on the severity of the condition, but luckily some alternatives can work to improve this skin condition. Don’t forget that natural remedies can also be effective. The home remedies in this article may not work for everyone who suffers from acne, but they may be worth a try, however, it is advisable to consult a dermatologist if you suffer from severe acne.

Below we present 4 masks that you can use.

Masks to eliminate acne

Perhaps most people are hesitant to use face masks, due to the adverse reactions they can cause, and at the same time cause dryness, redness, or irritation. However, the following products have been classified as some of the most effective in combating acne, in addition to not causing, for the most part, adverse reactions.

1. Tea tree oil

Two clinical trials conducted by the American Academy of Dermatologists have shown that topical tea tree oil is effective for treating acne.

Tea tree oil is an essential oil extracted from the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia, a small tree native to Australia. It is known for its ability to fight bacteria and reduce skin inflammation.

How to use

  1. Mix one part tea tree oil with 9 parts water.
  2. Dip a cotton swab in the mixture and apply it to the affected areas.
  3. Apply moisturizer, if necessary.
  4. Repeat this process 1 to 2 times per day, as needed.

2. Green tea

Green tea is very rich in antioxidants, and drinking it can promote health. The main antioxidant in green tea, epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), has been shown to reduce sebum production, fight inflammation, and inhibit the growth of  P. acnes bacteria in people with acne-prone skin.

There are no studies on the benefits of drinking green tea when it comes to acne, but it has been shown to help when applied directly to the skin. This is likely because the flavonoids and tannins in green tea help fight bacteria and reduce inflammation, two major causes of acne.

Several studies have shown that applying 2%-3% green tea extract to the skin significantly reduces sebum production and pimples in people with acne. Green tea does not irritate the skin.

How to use

  1. Keep the green tea in boiling water for 3 to 4 minutes.
  2. Let it cool.
  3. Using a cotton ball, apply the tea to your skin or place it in a spray bottle to spray it on your skin.
  4. Allow to dry, then rinse with water and gently pat dry.

3. Aloe vera

Aloe vera is a tropical plant whose leaves produce a clear gel. The gel is often added to lotions, creams, ointments, and soaps. It is commonly used to treat abrasions, rashes, burns, and other skin conditions. When applied to the skin, aloe vera gel can help heal wounds, treat burns, and fight inflammation.

Aloe vera also contains salicylic acid and sulfur, which are widely used in the treatment of acne. Several studies have shown that applying salicylic acid to the skin significantly reduces acne. The same is true for sulfur, which is an effective acne treatment.

  3. Apply the gel directly to clean the skin as you would your moisturizer.
  4. Leave it on your skin until you feel it has dried.
  5. Rinse with warm water to remove.
  6. Repeat 1 to 2 times per day, or as desired.

You can also buy aloe vera gel at the store, but make sure it is pure without any added ingredients.

4. Honey

It is without a doubt another of the infallible products to combat acne, as it is ideal for deep cleaning all the layers of the dermis. In addition, it eliminates dead cells and impurities embedded in the skin. It is also a powerful natural moisturizer, reducing the presence of blackheads and pimples. And finally, it is a natural antiseptic with antibacterial properties, thus eliminating the bacteria on the face that cause the infections that make pimples appear.
